Amazing Teacher Video

On February 4th I watched Truly Amazing Teacher from the New York Times website. The video caught my attention because it said truly amazing teacher and I wanted to know what that entailed and what made this person such a great teacher. Mr. White is a high school teacher who is absolutely adored by his students. In the video you can see how passionate he is towards teaching, and as explained by his students, he’s no ordinary teacher. Mr. White does all kinds of engaging and fun experiments and all the students love his class. You see what a great teacher Mr. White and how much he loves his students and they love him back. Love is very important to Mr. White and you later find out why. Mr. White has a son who was born with a very rare disease that causes him to not have control over his body. No doubt the White family has many struggles to raise their son but they get through it with love and Mr. White has a lot of it to give in and outside of the classroom. This story was very inspiring and moving. Mr. White is an amazing teacher in the classroom and always has all his students’ attention. He is also always there for his students and helps them through their struggles. The students turn to him because they know he cares about all of them and loves each and every one of them. Mr. White is also an incredible father and has been through so much having a son born with a debilitating condition. When I saw Mr. White with his son it brought me to tears because he has so much love and patience with him and you can see a positive difference in his son when they are together. Mr. White really shows the amazing impact love and compassion can have. As a future teacher I can give that same love and care to all my students like Mr. White did. I also would like to be able to engage my students the same way he did. I think his passion for what he was teaching really helped his kids get involved in what they were learning. Several of the students talked about how Mr. White was teaching them for the real world and I too as a teacher want to be able to show kids how and why what they are learning is important. Mr. White is truly an inspiring and role model teacher.

Michaels Story

In the future I want my classroom environment to be one where all the students feel safe, supported, and cared about not just from me as their teacher but also from their peers. To ensure this type of classroom it is important that I teach and model acts of kindness, respect and acceptance. These are all important values for students to learn because whether or not there is a student such as Micheal in my class, I want them to treat all their classmates with the same level of respect. I know kids would really like Michael if they just got a chance to know him, so when group work is required I will make the groups so that way a student such as Michael doesn't have to stress about picking a partner and the students get a chance to get to know a fellow classmates they may otherwise have not met or talked to. I would also want all my students to feel comfortable enough to come talk to me if they feel they are ever having any trouble fitting into the classroom or just don't feel comfortable. By creating a caring and loving classroom environment will help all the students but especially one like Michael feel more confident and positive about coming to school. Hopefully my classroom can be one of love and support and acceptance.
